THE MIMS INSTITUTE OF CARDIAC SCEINCES is a tertiary care centre with specialized divisions in invasive and non-invasive cardiology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, cardiac anaesthesiology and intensive care, preventive cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation and perfusion technology.
The department of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery at MIMS has remained a comprehensive cardiac referral center for whole of Northern Malabar region since last three years. This is one of the few centers in Asia where Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery is done on beating heart, without Heart Lung Machine, with less than 0.5% mortality.
A strong team of full time experienced and senior cardiac surgeons, cardiac anesthesiologists and Intensivists, Perfusionists and Cardiac rehabilitation staff man this department round the clock.
Apart from coronary artery bypass surgery, valve replacement surgeries, combined valve and bypass surgery and surgery for congenital heart defects like ASD, VSD and TOF are being performed routinely in our fully equipped cardiac operation theatres.
Thoracic surgeries, including lung and mediastinal surgery are performed here. Surgeries for peripheral vascular disease like Aorto-bifemoral bypass, Femoro-femoral bypass, femoro-popliteal bypass surgeries and as combined procedure with bypass surgery is being performed in this center with excellent results.
Department of Cardiac Surgery has two fully equipped Cardiac Operation Theatre with Teleconferencing facilities and state of art equipment and instruments including the latest Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
The cardiac surgery ICU is 15 bedded with 8 channel monitors including continuous cardiac output monitoring & ventilatory facilities.
This cardiac center has been operating on patients from whole of Malabar region extending from Cannanore to Palghat. We have been receiving patients from most of the Gulf countries. With it’s round the clock availability of cardiac surgeons, cardiac anaesthetists and cardiac nursing staff. this department has been able to provide care of international standards.
