THE MIMS INSTITUTE OF CARDIAC SCEINCES is a tertiary care centre with specialized divisions in invasive and non-invasive cardiology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, cardiac anaesthesiology and intensive care, preventive cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation and perfusion technology.

Is the tertiary referral center for cardiac diseases in Northern Kerala for the last three years and is manned by fulltime senior interventional cardiologists and other staff who render their services round the clock. The department is fully equipped for non-invasive investigations like Transthoracic and Trans esophageal echocardiography and treadmill testing and has a state of the art Digital Cardiac Catheterization lab and advanced Gamma Camera supported by the nuclear medicine department and has been routinely performing diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Apart from the routine diagnostic invasive procedures like angiography and catheterization studies, the centre performs coronary and peripheral angioplasty (Angioplasties of the leg for other blood vessels) with stenting and balloon valvuloplasty for all valvular lesions. Device and coil closure of PDA and device closure of ASD are being performed on patients of all ages.

MIMS Department of Cardiology is among the centers in India having an electrophysiological department performing routine Electro Physiology (EP) studies and Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA). Head Up Tilt Testing (HUTT) facility is also available for the diagnosis of syncope (Loss of Consciousness).

Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD) implantation for the prevention of cardiac arrest, Biventricular pacing therapy for heart failure in addition to routine temporary and permanent pacemaker implantation, are being performed here.

This is one of the few centres in North Kerala routinely performing primary angioplasty (Angiopasty in the setting of acute heart attack) and rescue Angioplasty (for failed thrombolysis) round the clock.
